Rey Misterio Sr., a legendary figure in professional wrestling and uncle of WWE superstar Rey Mysterio Jr., passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 66.

Born Miguel Ángel López Días in Tijuana, Mexico, Misterio Sr. began his career as a boxer before transitioning to wrestling in 1976. He gained prominence in the lucha libre scene, competing for promotions such as Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling, and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. His international fame was bolstered by his appearance at WCW’s Starrcade in 1990 alongside Konnan. Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, Misterio Sr. was a respected trainer, mentoring wrestlers including his son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio, his nephew Rey Mysterio Jr., Konnan, and Psicosis.

His passing comes shortly after the death of his brother, Roberto Gutierrez, adding to the family’s recent tragedies. Rey Mysterio Jr., currently active in WWE, recently lost the US Championship to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel.
