Woman with face tattoos rants after store denies her retail job

Ash Putnam, who goes by the online handle ashxobrien, recently went on TikTok and complained that TJ Maxx rejected her for a job in retail. “I applied to TJ Maxx a few weeks ago and they denied my application,” the 24-year-old started in the TikTok clip that was viewed more than 7 million times. “They couldn’t even call me. They just sent me some automated email.”

Looking for some clarity, Putnam – who has visible tattoos covering her face and body, along with numerous facial piercings – said she decided to confront the hiring manager. “So, I went in today, and I was like, ‘What was the reason I didn’t get hired?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, you just don’t have enough experience. There [were] candidates with more experience than you,’” explains the young woman.

“I asked her if it was because of my tattoos. Obviously, a lot of places don’t like tattoos. She said that [it] wasn’t the reason. I don’t feel like that’s true, but whatever. I’ll leave it at that.”

The post read: “Words can not describe what has happened within our community today. We have experienced a feeling that no department wants to go through. Words can not express the way we truly feel.”

According to Shawna Burwell, Carter’s cousin: “Her 21st birthday was yesterday, and on Facebook, she had posted what a great birthday and this morning on Snapchat I’d seen ‘loving these mommy moments’ and she had the baby laying on her chest.”

Carter’s obituary read: “She loved every child she came in contact with and they loved her. Her greatest moment was becoming a mom.”

A GoFundMe page set up to help Carter’s baby and her family has raised over $30,000 as of Saturday evening.

It has been unbelievable to witness the amount of support that our community has given not only to the family but to everyone involved in this tragic event. It makes us very proud and honored to be a part of this community,” Plumer stated.
